About Alan & Valerie

Al and Valerie have been married for 38 years and live in Carrollton, Texas. They have two sons, Jonathan and Daniel, and one granddaughter. Al is a graduate of Michigan State University and Dallas Theological Seminary. Valerie is a graduate of Indiana University, with a Master’s degree in counseling from Butler University, and has also attended Denver Seminary.

After their marriage in 1985, Al and Valerie moved to Vienna, Austria to serve with Eastern European Seminary, where they trained pastors and lay leaders in communist countries. When the Berlin Wall came down, they moved back to the Dallas area, where Al was self-employed as a small business owner for 30 years.

The Moon’s have continued to remain active in missions and ministry. Al has taught numerous Biblical Education by Extension (BEE) courses and Bible Conferences in Eastern Europe, Russia, Africa, India, Jordan, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Brazil with various mission organizations. Valerie has worked with women and children in several African countries, as well as leading Bible studies and prayer groups for many years. She also taught and worked in Special Education for Christian and charter schools. Valerie is currently leading a women’s Bible Study and an Alzheimer’s caregivers support group through their local church.

As empty nesters, Al and Valerie’s passion is to equip pastors and lay leaders in places where they are unable to receive advanced biblical training, so they can more effectively disciple their congregations and evangelize their communities “to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 3:18).
