About Chris & Melody
Chris and Melody were married in 1985, one day after they both graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Chris graduated with a degree in Pastoral Theology and Melody with a degree in Elementary Education. They raised nine children (six biological and three adopted) and homeschooled all but one. The Powell’s have also been blessed with eight grandchildren.
After beginning his career in ministry, Chris took a position to help build his family’s water well drilling and service company. He remained active in a variety of lay church leadership roles over the years, including writing curriculum, teaching evangelism and discipleship courses, and leading Bible Studies. Chris and Melody both earned several biblical counseling certificates through the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF).
Melody’s background includes teaching at a Christian school, homeschooling, organizing Bible Studies and leading a homeschool co-op for ten years. Her giftedness lies in identifying existing needs and finding a strategy for meeting those needs effectively.
The Powell’s have enjoyed many opportunities to minister in Liberia, providing training for pastors, youth workers and children’s ministry leaders. Chris has been excited to see how both his knowledge of water wells and training leaders can be utilized within missions. Chris and Melody are thrilled to be a part of what God is doing in Liberia and look forward to ministry with GTN!
