About Nate & Paula
Nate grew up in South Carolina and moved to Southern California in 2012 to pursue surfing professionally. Since then, he has traveled around the world and competed as a professional surfer on the WSL until 2020, using the platform of the sport to share the gospel in the surf community.
Nate has a passion to make disciples through teaching the word of God locally and around the world. He is an adjunct professor at Vanguard University, teaching college students about the Christian faith, worldviews and anthropology. He has also partnered with his father and fellow GTN staff, Doug Dorman, on multiple trainings internationally. Nate has a Master of Arts in Theological Studies and Master of Divinity from Liberty University, and plans to graduate with a Master of Arts in Anthropology from California State University, Long Beach in May 2025.
Paula grew up in Southern California, and speaks both Portuguese and Spanish. She played tennis at the University of California, San Diego, graduating with a major in environmental engineering and is currently working part-time as a Mechanical Engineer in the construction industry.
