About Joel & Kathy
Before joining Global Training Network in 2006, Joel spent 21 years in pastoral ministry. He began by serving as College Pastor for five years at Northwest Community Church in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1989, he joined the staff of Overlake Christian Church in Redmond, Washington, where he worked for 16 years. During his time at Overlake, he led a large men’s ministry and oversaw an extensive pastoral care and counseling ministry. After joining GTN, he also served as Missions Pastor at Cascade Community Church in Monroe, Washington, from 2008 to 2024. Joel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Missions and Bible from Arizona Christian University.
Joel has always had a heart to see the nations of the world reached with the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a child, he told his mother he wanted to be a missionary in Africa. Today, he has traveled to 54 countries, training and encouraging pastors and leaders in 24.
Joel is a member of GTN’s board and one of the organization’s Executive Vice Presidents. He and his wife, Kathy, live in Monroe, Washington, and attend Canyon Hills Community Church, where they love serving together on the prayer team. They have been married for 47 years and enjoy spending time with their two married sons and five grandchildren.

Vision Leadership Institute - Ethiopia
Vision Leadership Institute is a mobile 2- year training program. VLI offers college level theological education and pastoral training for existing ministry leaders in local Ethiopian churches. Launched in 2011 in Ethiopia, VLI has trained and has graduated over 1,000 leaders. Currently, VLI has 420 ministry leaders enrolled in the program with training in six cities.
